The first discovery tour of Son Doong cave achieved great success, which offers a prospect of a new wonderful tour: discover the world’s biggest cave in Vietnam.

At 14 o’clock on August 6, the first visitors came back safe and sound from their journey to conquer the biggest cave in the world. Despite fatigue after the long trip, they are all happy with smiles on their faces.

Large group

The group of tourists departed at 9 A.M on August 1, in Son Trach village, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province. It consisted of six members: two Americans, one British, one Russian, one Norwegian and one Australian. Among these people were tourists coming to Phong Nha since late June and waiting more than one month to participate in the journey as Jake Renz and Siv Engh. The Son Doong cave discovery is really attractive to foreign tourists.

This trip cost $ 3000 per person. 22 people, including two cave specialists, two supervisors of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, one tourist guide and 17 porters and the local man who had found the cave, have been trained to help tourists during the trip.

Everything was well prepared before the departure: safety equipment (climbing shoes, ropes, harnesses, ice axes, crampons, climbing helmets, etc.), medicines and first aid kit, rubber boats, tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses and food for group in six days. Each porter must carry about 50 kg of items.

Itinerary

From Phong Nha, the group moved along 35 km of Ho Chi Minh Road and walked 10 km in Phong Nha – Ke Bang primary forest towards Doong village – En cave. After a walking day, they took a break and sent a night En cave. The next day, they continued their itinerary with 2 km from En cave to Son Doong. From Son Doong cave’s gate, tourists have descended an 80 m vertical drop to enter inside. Son Doong cave extended over 6.5 km but the discovery tour covered only 5 km (4 km for walk, 150 m for rope, 50 m for waterfall and 500 m for rubber boat).

During the discovery journey, the tourists have repeatedly expressed their surprise when admiring different mysterious landscapes: large vaults of cave, huge blocks of stalactites of various shapes and colors, beautiful waterfalls, lush jungle in the middle of the cave … The tourists discovered many attractive sites in the cave as Dinosaure vault, Doline 1and Doline 2, Garden of Edam, Vietnam wall … Specially, tourists had many nights in this biggest house in the world.

Another tourist said: “Travel cost is nothing when we compare it with beautiful and amazing sceneries that we have seen or with unforgettable experiences we have gotten and with an enthusiastic team who has helped us during the itinerary.
