Remember to bring your notebook to record the emergency phone numbers which you may need like police, fire, property and the nearest embassy.
Learn a few common phrases in the local language and write down on a paper to report important information to police or medical assistance.
Avoid going into the small tortuous alleys, or return the previous roads you passed when you think you are too far away, and keep calm attitude if there were disturbed strangers.

Look for a local and by all means you should explain what you need by your body language. When you speak out the name of the hotel or the street where you live, most people would be willing to help.

Finding other traveling groups
It is better to look for the woman, a student or an older person to ask for directions. Or find a group of other tourists with guides.

Stop over the nearest hotel on the road to use their public computer to search necessary information. The hotel staff will also easily help you.
